Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Catching Fire is another great instalment in the Hunger Games Trilogy. It picks up not long after the surprise result of the 74th Hunger Games, with Katniss and Peeta settled into their new lives at the Victor’s Village in District 12. They are soon to embark on a victory tour of the districts to reinforce the strength and domination of the Capitol, and remind the people of their place in the pecking order.

With her success in the Hunger Games, Katniss has unwittingly created more of an impact than she realises and the rumblings of a rebellion are coming to the boil. As the name of this book suggests, the spark of defiance that she showed during the games is slowly but surely catching fire across the districts. Katniss has become the symbol of defiance and hope.

This second book of the Hunger Games series continues to captivate the reader! Intense and terrifying approach to a futuristic world where the government has lost all sense of good moral judgment. The main characters struggle makes for fascinating reading! Suzanne Collins is an excellent writier!!

Maude’s story is the story of American women changing through the 20th century. Victorian mores constrain, wars destroy, the depression devastates, and the migration from rural to urban living overwhelms. But Maude survives and, in the only way that matters, overcomes. It’s a really good book!

In 1906, I was barely over fourteen years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She opened her mouth to say something, but then her face flushed, and she turned her head to look out the window. After a second, she squeezed my hand and looked back in my eyes. She said, “You’ve always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now, you’re going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?”

I didn’t understand, but I nodded my head anyway. It sounded strange to me, the way so many things did. I would do what she told me. I didn’t have a choice, any more than I had a choice in being born.

Having been delighted by the bestselling debut, A Shade of Vampire, readers are begging for more. In A Shade of Blood, Bella Forrest transports you deeper into a unique, enthralling and beautifully sensitive story. Prepare to be lost in its pages…

This book is dark, captivating and intense, it was impossible for me to put it down, even when that implied for me to stay awake almost all night. The story is still as good as in the first book, and thanks to the fact that places and scenes are well described and detailed it is fairly easy to be transported to the world that the author created, that mysterious and intriguing place called “The Shade” where there are all these vampires governed by Derek Novak.

The characters are well developed and for me it was really easy relate to them, you can feel their pain, frustration, love, their struggle, and I think this is why I’m so captive by Bella Forrest’s books. One thing I really enjoyed was the multiple POV that we see in this book, to be able to switch between Sofia, Derek, Ben and Lucas, really helped me understand better these characters, their feelings and what was behind their actions. In this second book we learn more about Derek’s past, “The Shade” and also get to know better to Ben, Sofia’s best friend who after this book it became more interesting for me than in the first book.

An unconventional lady and her maid/companion move to a house in a small English village. On their first walk they find a body hanging from a tree. The local police want to call it a suicide, but Lady Hardcastle quickly show them the evidence which proves the man was murdered. From that point it is clear that our heroines will be detectives, and our quiet village a hotbed of murder and intrigue.

TE Kinsey has done a fine job capturing England in the early part of the 19th century. The characters are delightful and the plots interesting. Hoping she plans to write many more books so we learn more about Emily and Flo’s escapades through Asia

New York Times Bestseller

In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be “positive” all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. “F**k positivity,” Mark Manson says. “Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it.” In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—”not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault.” Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.

Not anything new but a provocative reframe on recognition. Having endorsed the e book to others and as compared notes, we all agree….the message doesn’t leave one’s thoughts. Mark has skillfully navigated to the depths of the mind and supplanted a existence converting mantra. if you welcome alternate, supply this a strive. You may not regret the outcome.

Friedman explains how global warming, rapidly growing populations, and the expansion of the world’s middle class through globalization have produced a dangerously unstable planet–one that is “hot, flat, and crowded.” In this Release 2.0 edition, he also shows how the very habits that led us to ravage the natural world led to the meltdown of the financial markets and the Great Recession. The challenge of a sustainable way of life presents the United States with an opportunity not only to rebuild its economy, but to lead the world in radically innovating toward cleaner energy. And it could inspire Americans to something we haven’t seen in a long time–nation-building in America–by summoning the intelligence, creativity, and concern for the common good that are our greatest national resources.
